Travel insurance can be complex, but seniors travel insurance for Australians can be especially complicated. Whether you’re looking for over 50s insurance, or travel insurance for over 80s, travel insurance companies can make getting insurance a bit of a hassle for Australian seniors.
In general, travel insurance companies charge more for senior travel insurance. That’s the bad news.
The good news is that we’ve found out we’ve taken a careful look at the policies and plans for travel insurance for seniors in Australia.
Tip: If you’re going on a cruise, check out our review of cruise travel insurance.
In this review, we decided to tackle the problem by getting quotes for travel insurance for a couple of Australian seniors. We’ll tell you which plans we were quoted that were the cheapest, and which offered the most coverage.
For this review, we compared rates for a two week vacation to Bali for an Aussie couple who are aged 71 and 72, with no pre-existing conditions.
Just a note: Because policies and prices can change without notice, the policy you’re quoted may be different. Make sure you check your specific policy!
All prices are in Australian dollars.
Are you age 69 or under? You may have more options for travel insurance
Almost all travel insurance policies cover Australians who are under 50 or 60 years of age, but you do start running into fewer companies that will provide travel insurance when you hit 70. Some even don’t offer over 50s insurance!
World Nomads Australia
Unfortunately, our sample couple at 71 and 72 couldn’t be insured with World Nomads, but we did get a quote for a couple aged 67 and 68 for two weeks in Bali.
World Nomads Standard Plan was $177.00 AUD for a couple aged 67 and 68, including 10 million in overseas medical costs, trip cancellation and baggage insurance. They also offer an Explorer plan for with higher coverage limits.
